Book Review: From The Start by Melissa Tagg

“Maybe that was the best part. The beautiful peace that came with living her own story, knowing every turn of the page and tug of the heart was a new beginning.”

From the Publisher:

“Kate Walker used to believe in true love and happily ever after. While her own love life may have left her brokenhearted, it hasn’t kept her from churning out made-for-TV romance movie screenplays…until a major career slump and a longing to do something meaningful send her running back to her hometown of Maple Valley.

Permanently sidelined by an injury, former NFL quarterback Colton Greene is temporarily hiding out in a friend’s hometown to avoid the media and the reminders of all he’s lost. Maple Valley seems like the perfect place to learn how to adjust to normal life. The only trouble is he’s never really done normal before.

While Kate plays things safe and Colton is all about big risks and grand gestures, they both get what it’s like to desperately need direction in life. An unexpected project gives them both a chance to jumpstart their new lives, but old wounds and new dreams are hard to ignore. Starting over wasn’t part of the plan, but could it be the best thing that’s ever happened to them?”

My Review:

This book was like an adorable Hallmark movie, and I love Hallmark movies!

I can’t get over how amazing this book was, I have already started trying to persuade my friend to read it.

The fact that I have been shoving it onto her lap and in her face should be totally irrelevant.

I’m usually pretty hesitant about reading books from authors that are totally new to me but I figured it was about time to give Melissa Tagg a try and I am very glad that I did.

First, let me just say, isn’t that cover absolutely adorable?! I am in love with it!

However – if you can believe such a thing – the inside is even better!

I love Melissa’s writing style and how she wove this story together. It has the perfect mix of wit, humor, and emotion. I felt like I was right there with characters throughout the story and was able to fully empathize with them because they seemed so real. I found myself re-reading scenes that I loved multiple times, laughing, and even tearing up – this book was so good!

I truly adored the Walker family and their various family members that each possessed certain quirks – just by reading the book, I felt like I was accepted as part of their family. And their food! Your mouth will be watering after mentions of some of the food that family makes! I want to live with them! Oh, if only they weren’t fictional…

Kate and Coleton are such well-crafted main characters, you will fall in love with both of them right away like I did!

This book will have you sighing, laughing, and tearing up all at the same time.

Wait.

Is that even possible?

Well, you’ll be sighing, laughing, and tearing up throughout the whole duration of the book.

(I must recommend that you read Melissa Tagg’s free e-novella, Three Little Words, before you read this one if you can. It gives you more familiarity with the characters and their pasts that appear in this book. If you can’t, it’s not the end of the world but it’s a great novella!)

Rating:

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

FIVE STARS!

I loved this story, the characters, the settings, the way the book flows… I love everything about it! It’s definitely worth the read!

It is an adult contemporary romance and though it is really clean, I would still recommend it to mature audiences.
