Behind the Scenes: About Author Pepper D. Basham

Since we’re having a cover reveal party today for The Thorn Keeper and because Pepper is one of my dearest author friends, I have decided to dedicate my blog solely to her today!

That’s her! The genius woman behind these amazing novels! ❤ (Isn’t that the best picture ever? It’s my absolute favorite.)

If you’re want to know more about her, I’ve got it all typed out and all you have to do is scroll. Convenient, isn’t it?

About Pepper Basham:

I wrote my first story when I was a nine year- old, freckled-faced tomboy in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Coming from a long line of oral storytellers, weaving a good yarn seemed a typical part of my life.  It wasn’t until I finished college, had two children, and a full time job before I began to study the ‘craft’ of writing (you know when I had plenty of time).

My music-director turned pastor husband took his first senior pastor position eight years ago, moved the 6 of us to Tennessee, where  we added our fifth and final kid to the Basham crew. And now hubby is a music minister in Asheville, NC. Yep, we love the Blue Ridge Mountains.

So…now I’m a 38-year old, freckled-faced mommy enjoying life, learning to write, and laughing often.  My mom says that I must have a small bit of insanity because I don’t realize how stressed I ought to be.

I’m also a speech-language pathologist who spends her time hanging out with kids who have Autism! It’s a challenge and a blessing – and constantly teaches me about the importance of thinking outside the box!

Doesn’t she sound like a totally amazing human being? I think so!

She’s even won some pretty awesome awards for her books. These include:

BRMCWC – Award of Excellence in Christian Fiction – 2009

First Place in the Inspirational Category of the TARA – 2010

Finalist in RWA’s Golden Rose – 2010

Double Finalist in ACFW’s Genesis – 2011

Genesis Semi-finalist – 2012

Now, before I wrap this up, I have an exclusive, special story to tell you (not that exclusive but it makes this post sound like I’m writing for a lifestyle magazine 😉 ).

So, sit in a circle while I tell you a story.

This is like kindergarten all over again.

How I met Pepper:

Once upon a time, a long time ago.

Okay, it wasn’t that long ago. It’s been like nine months (Facebook confirmed it).

A marvelous author by the name of Dawn Crandall (you should check her out) posted about her friend, Pepper Basham, who had a book that was going to be released and needed bloggers who would read it and promote it. I had just started my blog and was willing to read and review just about anything to get me on my feet. So, I contacted Pepper and I received The Thorn Bearer as an Advanced Reader’s Copy.

I was drawn into the story right away. I had never read a book as deep and emotionally grabbing as that book. Most historical romances are light and fluffy with only a small fatality that the characters must overcome – The Thorn Bearer was a game changer for me.

After that, I joined her street team and we hit it off right away – our friendship grew like a wildfire. I’ve never met her personally (Hopefully, I will get the chance one day) but we already have some awesome memories and inside jokes (Pepper, the fire scene. I will never get over it. Ever. 😉 ) I look back now and think to myself, “What if I never sent that message or saw Dawn’s post?” My life would be substantially different. She has done so much for me both personally and professionally, and I appreciate her friendship so much! I love reading, critiquing, and reviewing her work!!

If you haven’t read her book (soon to be books plural), I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
